Sedona Spiritual Guide book and Sedona Vortex
What is a Sedona vortex? In this Sedona spiritual guide book Johanna gives you information about these energy centers in Sedona which made the town a spiritual pilgrimage for many seeking a spiritual experience. Read here for Sedona vortex info and your Sedona spiritual guide book.
In the late 1980’s a medium and channel by the name of Page Bryant came up with the term red rock Sedona vortexes while visiting Sedona. During her visits to Sedona and her channeling time, she would wander into the red rock areas around Sedona to meditate and receive insights and got very intense physical responses to her body while in various places. As a result of her ‘discovery’ of the Sedona Vortex, a whole new wave of New Age people came to visit and live in this little town in Northern Arizona in the red rocks.
When I first arrived in Sedona many years ago, I was deeply touched by the magic of the red rock monoliths. I truly felt awed and as in all of nature, felt it was God looking back at me smiling! You can’t help but feel the power of the Universe when you are staring at this landscape. I had hired a Native American guide and told him I wanted to see the sacredness of the land and natural teachings and I asked him about this term vortex. He told me that the Native Americans believe ALL of Sedona was a sacred site that we are sacred as people and the energy and medicine is strong here. He also told me that vortex was a term used by New Age people which is really very true as many people in Sedona think it is a great tourist term. I think you will have to decide for yourself; I personally felt totally different going in these areas but I was also open to having a profound experience instead of being a doubting Thomas. Geologists have done studies in the area and have found large mineral deposits which may in fact be the reason for the physical response. You will have to decide for yourself!
The Sedona vortexes are sometimes also called vortices. They are an energy center where you can have a physical reaction or just feel plain good after leaving them. You will see the minerals sometimes sitting on top of the red rocks that look like crystals which are a conductive element and we have red rocks because of the high content of feron, or iron. There is a lot of basalt (white stripes) that you can see like looking at the rings of a tree; this defines the age as Sedona was once entirely under water and when the waters receded these minerals deposits created red rocks loaded with tons of active minerals. Like radio towers sending signals, so the vortex energy connects you to your inner soul. They act like a Sedona spiritual guide book taking you deeper.
Spiritually these energy centers activate dreams, connect you with the Divine Masculine which is also called the ‘active’ principal, where you ask for something praying out loud. And some are Divine Feminine where you are ‘receptive’ get quiet, go within and meditate. We are told that prayer out loud is masculine and meditating within is feminine and that we need both for balance.
Below are listed the primary Sedona vortex places. They are easy to reach, lovely to spend some time in. I have put the designation beside each one so you will know what to ‘do’ or ‘be’ in each of these areas. In any event, whether you are on a spiritual path or just love feeling good, sit in these areas and enjoy the feeling and joy of being alive with nature wrapping it arms around you with a good hug!
Cathedral Rock - is found on Lower Red Rock Loop Road - the rock structure resembles an al fresco sandstone cathedral with a man and woman in the center, endearing it to those of a spiritual bent. This is called the relationship vortex and many people get married here. The rolling creek is wonderful to stick your feet in on a hot summer day. This is actually BOTH masculine and feminine so pray AND meditate here and bring your camera!
Bell Rock - situated next to the Village of Oak Creek - the bell-shaped sandstone gives the rock its name. Also known as the eye of Sedona, you can view the entire valley from this vantage point. It is a masculine vortex and you will get energized so if you want to climb that mountain, remember, it is NOT rock, it can crumble and is porous so sit and just gaze and ask for inner direction.
Airport Mesa - this vortex is in the vicinity of uptown Sedona, and boasts wonderful views. Also a masculine vortex, this gives you a terrific view of Sedona at sunset and is a popular tourist spot. It is right smack in the middle of town so get there early for good parking.
Boynton Canyon - is located off Dry Creek Road from 89A. It's the hardest site to get to - a 90 minute hike both ways. BUT you can drive into the canyon then take the simple trail in front of Enchantment Resort. This is the dream weaver vortex as it is a feminine vortex and activates déjà vu and dreams. So bring a dream journal with you, take the hike along the ridge and then have lunch at Enchantment and share your stories. You will see a large cave off to the left that Native Americans once lived in. At night you can also see UFO activity, or so the ‘story’ goes. Great drive into the Canyon that quiets the mind.
The Chapel of the Holy Cross is a wonderful church to visit, light a candle, pray and requires a walk up a winding path. It is the Village of Oak Creek right off the Route 179 where the sign says CHAPEL ROAD of all things. Schnebly Hill and West Fork are other well-known sites in the Sedona area energy points to add to your Sedona spiritual guide book.
You don't need to do anything special when you get to a vortex; just sit quietly. Some people meditate or pray. The energy is supposed to permeate the entire area of each site, so you don't need to find Vortex Central to experience the benefits. And what might you experience? Joy, a feeling of being close to God, physical and mental healing, serenity, emotional release; the responses vary as much as the individuals who go there.
